It is official, Chi Chi Rodriguez is on team BombTech!

Posted by Tyler Sullivan on

It seemed like this day would never come, but it is finally official. Chi Chi Rodriguez is on TEAM BOMBTECH! Welcome to the team Chi Chi! I could not be more humbled to have such a legend in the golf industry on our team.

What does this mean for you?

First, I will be auctioning off a signed Chi Chi Rodriguez Grenade golf driver!

Second, there will be a new custom golf shaft option for you to choose from. Chi Chi Rodriguez had very specific requirements when it came to the weight and characteristics of his golf shaft. He asked, so I did it...Well Matrix shafts and I co-designed it.

I have been expanding our product lines from the original Grenade golf driver to our 3 wood, 5 wood, putter and now new hybrid. But this is the first time since the launch, that a new option to a current product line has been made available. This new shaft option was a long time coming, as golfer's are different and having options to fit more golfers is needed. Our "stock" golf shaft will not be replaced as it is performing so well for so many.

It is my hope that giving you options will help you dial in your game even further. As with any of our custom golf clubs, the CCR golf shaft is backed by our 60 day guarantee.

Lastly, we will be shooting a video of Chi Chi Rodriguez with his custom Grenade golf driver! Is there anything you want to see on the video?

If so, please let us know in the comments section below!

Let's hear it!

New Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Shaft - Now Available

New Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Shaft - Now Available

I have been communicating with Chi Chi Rodriguez over the last few months. I know, Chi Chi Rodriguez right. The first time he called me on the phone, I actually didn't believe it was him. But can you blame me, I mean he is a legend. So, anyways we have been talking and he said he would be willing to try our Grenade golf driver. He is not only a great golfer but understands golf equipment and most importantly understands what he wants. He asked for specific requirements regarding the shaft. I worked with Matrix to build a shaft that would fit his game.

He was so happy with the driver that he has agreed to join team BombTech Golf! A video of his review and why he likes the Grenade golf driver with new Chi Chi Rodriguez Signature Edition Shaft coming soon. Well, not soon enough!

So what is new with the Chi Chi Rodriguez shaft?

The new signature series custom shaft option is lighter than the current Grenade golf shaft. The reduction in weight was designed to increase club head speed and make the Grenade golf driver faster! Often when you make something lighter it becomes less stable, so Matrix shafts and I utilized their HD technology to increase stability and increase butt diameter. This helps with overall feel, accuracy and control while allowing the shaft to be lighter overall.

This lighter shaft helped Chi Chi achieve the extra distance he was looking for.

How does this NEW golf shaft compare to the current Grenade golf driver shaft?

The "stock" Grenade golf shaft by Matrix has proven to be a great fit for the majority of golfers. The shaft is stable, consistent and offers incredible kick. The new shaft offering is certainly NOT going to replace one of the best so called stock shaft options available.

Who should consider the CCR golf shaft?

- Golfers that want to increase club head speed.

- Slow swing speed golfers that are looking for a lighter option.

- If it is within your budget. Making it lighter and adding stability takes extra costs. Other aftermarket shafts that offer similar technologies are sold for as much as the built driver.

Who should not consider the CCR golf shaft?

- Golfers with a very quick transition

- Very high swing speed players. Over 115mph. We do offer an X flex but have found that most golfers with these club head speeds prefer shaft over 75 grams.

Please note, the club head weight is still tour weighted at 199 grams. Offering a lighter head would not be a benefit as you would lose feel and control. In order to make the golf driver faster we made the shaft lighter, not the head.

How much lighter is the CCR signature shaft?

Ladies and Senior flexes were reduced by 5 grams, Regular and Stiff Flexes were reduced by 7 grams and the X flex was reduced by 10 grams.

"HD design refers to the hexadecagonal (16-sided) internal platform on which the shaft designs are built. HD allows for new levels of structural strength. With the stronger 16-cut butt section, Matrix engineers are able to better structure and strengthen the tip section without adding overall weight. At times this even lowers balance points to better match high MOI and low CG heads. The results is a stronger "tip-strength-to-weight" ratio than with any previous Matrix Shaft."

Bottom line, it is our hope that a new shaft option will do just that, give you options! And if you still want even more options, you can always buy the club head as a stand alone component!

Welcome to the team Chi Chi! To make it official, we will be giving away a set of SIGNED Grenade golf club!

In Store Golf Club Demo vs. 60 Day On Course Golf Club Demo

Everyday I am asked where can I demo these golf clubs or where can I try the Grenade golf driver? And everyday I say the same thing. You can't. And can't isn't a word I like to use. Especially to a potential BombTech team member. So, why can't you go to the local golf store or to Dick's Sporting Goods and find our products?

It is intentional. As you probably read recently, 500 PGA professionals were fired from Dick's Sporting Goods. And that is just the beginning. Golf retail is struggling. Well all traditional brick and mortar retail for that matter. Yea we never will sell 30,000 drivers to Dick's Sporting Goods or 10,000 to Golfsmith, but I am OK with selling 1 at a time to you. If that means you have a better understanding of our technology and can build your own custom golf driver.

And for this reason we offer a 60 Day On Course Guarantee. You pull the pin on any of our custom golf clubs, and you get 60 days to play it. If you don't love it, you get one exchange or you can return it for a 90% refund. It is like renting a golf club for 2 months for $29.

How does this compare to an in store demo at your local big box retailer? You pick up the STOCK golf club or golf driver. Take some swings into a net or a monitor. And you hope it plays well on the course. I have done that, and I would take 60 days out on the course all day over in a store.

So to your question, where can you demo the Grenade driver? We have a 60 day guarantee!

Which would you choose?

Golf Driver Review - AmongMen

Posted by Tyler Sullivan on

Great review of the Grenade golf driver.

"Whoa, that’s the coolest driver I’ve ever seen," exclaims a passing wide-eyed 12-year-old when I remove the cover off of BombTech Golf’s gunmetal black 460CC head and take a few practice swings at the driving range. Sharply accented by a lime green shaft, this wild wood packs a visual payload fitting of its name. Co-designed by faculty and students in the University of Vermont’s Engineering department, the world’s first dual cavity driver tends to evoke an almost pheremonal love it or loath it reaction at first gander.

Tech highlights

While they look nifty, the deep triangular air pockets in the clubhead’s underside are no mere aesthetic flourish. The cavities raise the center of gravity by a smidgeon to diminish ballooning, cut back on drag by 48% which should coax an extra mile per hour of swing speed, and contribute to tighter dispersion on off center hits. The Grenade is also constructed with a two-piece plasma welded cast, a much pricier but more durable production process than the four-piece forge most manufacturers utilize and the stock shaft is an aftermarket quality custom Matrix. Launch monitor data culled from Golfballed.com pitted the Grenade head-to-head.

Every new fangled driver purports to be straighter, further, and more forgiving on off center hits than its predecessors so when I teed up my first range ball, I did so with a healthy dose of skepticism. But that sweet spot music on a flush hit is a satisfying “Kapoom” that’ll leave you itching to rip another one. My ball consistently sailed well past the two hundred yard marker before plunking down which made this high handicapper, as Phil Robertson says all the time on Duck Dynasty, “happy, happy, happy.” Rotating back and forth between my go-to driver and the Grenade, a distance edge wasn’t measurably appreciable. However my off-center hits did appear straighter on the Grenade and when it comes to shaving points off your scorecard that is a much more important game improvement variable.

Bottom line

This explosive USGA legal big stick has minimal blowback on impact shy of the sweet spot and will detonate the competition in your next foursome when it comes to club chatter. The Grenade currently retails factory direct from Bombtech for $299."

How to measure your golf driver

Posted by Tyler Sullivan on

How to measure your golf driver? Is one of the most common questions I am asked!

Why am I asked this? Most golfers are looking to buy a new golf driver and have no idea what their current length of there golf driver is or they are looking to build their own custom golf driver.

To give you some context, our golf drivers are 45.5 inches.  From our testing, we believe this is the longest golf driver length that you can easily control while offering maximum distance potential.

The biggest misconception is that you measure the golf driver against a wall or vertical. This is not accurate and will most likely add 1-2 inches to your measurement. Simply hold your golf club at 45 degrees to the ground or as in your playing position. At this point take a golf club ruler or take measure and place under the sole of the club. Measure to butt of grip. This will give you you an accurate and USGA standard for measuring your golf driver.

So the next time you are looking to measure your golf driver make your sure you follow this basic instructions.
